Jesus Came to Serve & Calls Us to Do the Same

The local church, or “the monastery”, is a unique place where believers lovingly and joyfully serve one another. Serving the monastery is an outward expression and stewardship of Christ’s love, grace and mercy, that we have experienced for ourselves. As we serve, we do so in a manner that is humble, generous, and hospitable. Every Sunday, it is the seemingly small and behind the scenes works of service by faithful volunteers that help Terra Nova fulfill its mission to make more and better disciples of Jesus Christ. We hope all our volunteers know how grateful we are for their service.

If you attend Terra Nova regularly we encourage you to serve regularly and connect with others in the process. We hope our volunteers are able to serve on a team where they may utilize the gifts God has given them.

Serve Terra Saratoga

Audio Team

Description

Each week, one volunteer is scheduled to oversee all sound and lighting for the service. Team members arrive at 7:30am to get set up and EQ through the worship rehearsal.

Is this for me?

On Sunday morning, there is always a person who is helping to ensure that the preaching, music, and visual elements help usher people into worship as effectively as possible. Experience is great, but not required (we can train you). However, a good ear for this kind of things is essential.

Counting

Description

Each week two volunteers are scheduled to count the offering.  They will count the money in a designated area and fill out a spreadsheet. Counting typically takes less than 15 minutes.

Is this for me?

We are looking for individuals* who are comfortable handling large amounts of money and are willing to stay about 15 minutes after the end of the service to count. We ask that these individuals are detail-oriented and able to keep in confidence the giving of others.

*This role is typically reserved for those who have been doing life with us at Terra Nova for a while.

Specifics
Serve Time
15 minutes after the service
Frequency
Once or twice a month

Door Watch

Description

Each week we schedule a person to monitor the front door to welcome any late arrivals and act as a buffer to our Terra Kids’ program during the service. Volunteers on this team can be upstairs for the first part of worship, and then head downstairs to the lobby around 9:10am to relieve the hospitality team, remaining there for the rest of the service.

Is this for me?

We ask for men to fill this role given the protective nature of the task. This role is both important for directing late-comers (who are often new), as well as offering some peace-of-mind for our Terra Kid’s volunteers and families. Members of this team serve no more than once a month – typically less.

Specifics
Serve Time
9:00-10:30am (duration of service)

Handyman

Description

If you have a knack for fixing / building things, there are often projects that we’d like to get done. This is a behind-the-scenes way to help ensure that ministry happens as seamlessly and effectively as possible at Terra. There is no set regularity to this role, but these volunteers will be presented with needs that the church has as they come up.

Specifics

On an as-needed basis

Hospitality : Greeter and Communion Servers

DESCRIPTION

Each week two people are scheduled to greet attendees as they arrive at church, and two people serve communion. Greeters arrive twenty minutes prior to the start of the service through the first two songs. Communion servers (may also serve as the greeters, if desired) serve communion during the two songs of the service following the preaching. No early arrival or late stay is asked of communion servers.

IS THIS FOR ME?

The hospitality team is the face of Terra Nova on a Sunday in many ways. Team members will likely be people’s first and last impressions, and no one else on a Sunday will have contact with as many people as the members of this team. You don’t have to have all the answers, but people skills and a willingness to guide and direct newcomers is important.

Serve Time
8:40-9:00am; 20 minutes after the service
Frequency
Once or twice a month

Facility

Description

Since Terra Nova rents its worship space, each week there is a volunteer who arrives one hour early to set up before the service, and stays for about 20 minutes afterwards to tear down. These volunteers are in charge of setting up communion, signage, and anything else that Terra uses during the service. This team is essential to Sunday services. They very practically help to create a space for both our adults and children that is conducive to worship, learning, and growing together.

Is this for me?

We are looking for volunteers who can arrive one hour before the service and who we can depend on to be there on time and work in an efficient manner. An aptitude for organization and an eye for detail is very helpful.

Specifics
Serve Time
8:00 - 8:30am; 10:30 - 10:50am
Frequency
Once a month

ProPresenter (slides)

Description

Each week there is one person scheduled to run ProPresenter, advancing the song and sermon slides during the service. They arrive an hour and a half before the service (during the worship rehearsal) to familiarize themselves with that Sunday’s worship set and to make any necessary edits to the slides.

Is this for me?

We are looking for volunteers who can arrive early once a month, have an eye for detail, and are generally comfortable navigating their way around a computer. No need to already know how to use the ProPresenter software— we can teach you.

Terra Kids

Description

All Terra Kids volunteers are background-checked, but do not need teaching experience to jump in! We currently have positions to teach or assist a teacher in our classes for Nursery/Toddler ages, 4yr-1st grade, and Quest (2-5th grades).

Is This for me?

We would love for people who are willing to serve the generation of the church join us as we care for our ever growing kids program. Reach out to our Director, Kristina Wyman, for more details and an application.
